    Hey Mr Krug, I do have a problem is at 2:51 I did 33.9 divided by 101.96 x 6.02 x 10 to the 23 it gave me the answer of 5.52x10 to the -25. And I’d use the calculator on it but idk what’s wrong with the calculation.

    Hi, I’m taking AP Chemistry next year without having taken any prior chemistry classes (except maybe as part of general science classes in middle school). Given that I know all of the things you mentioned in this video, is there anything else I should learn before class starts this fall? Also, is it possible to substitute the lab experience that many of my classmates will have with knowledge of how to do labs?

    About drawing the lewis dot structures of atoms, can I always pair up the valence electrons if possible or should I draw them separately with 1 on each side and then pair up if there are more than 4 valence electrons.

    • @JeremyKrug
      @JeremyKrug 6 днів тому

      Usually it shouldn't matter, but out of habit I try to pair up the valence electrons whenever I can.

    how do you know if a molecule is a covalent network solid vs just a molecular solid?

    • @JeremyKrug
      @JeremyKrug 6 днів тому

      For AP Chem, there are really only a very limited number of covalent network solids you're expected to know: diamond, graphite, SiO2, and SiC. The trick is knowing that covalent network solids have bonds spread in multiple dimensions. Any molecular/covalent compound can be a molecular solid if we get the temp cold enough.

    what happens if there are 2 or more unshared pairs of electrons on the central molecule? how does that affect the polarity

    • @JeremyKrug
      @JeremyKrug 6 днів тому

      If the shared pairs are on completely opposite sides (such as in square planar), they can cancel each other out and be nonpolar. Much of the time though, multiple unshared pairs of electrons are centered on one side of the molecule, such as in a bent structure, and makes the molecule polar.

    Mr.Krug, thank you so much for all your help this past school year. However, I have to tell you that I must bear upon you horrible news. Despite our best efforts, I have gotten a 2 on the AP Chemistry Exam. Do not be defeated though, due to your excellent and intuition-filled videos I was able to pull an A in the class for both semesters, increasing my overall GPA and HPA. Thank you again, and let us be honest who even cares about passing the exam anyway. :)
